CHOOSING THE COLOUR FOR YOU
The number refers to the darkness level. The letters refer to the tone.
N (Natural): Ideal for maintaining your natural tone
TIP: N is best for covering grey hair and creating a natural-looking finish. Since grey hairs have lost all their pigment, they absorb dyes more steadily. This means brighter colours and reds won’t always look natural. If you prefer war or red tones, mixing with N (Natural) will help you achieve a more uniform hair look.
G (Golden): Have more yellow and some orange pigments which will add warmth to your hair
M (Mahogany): For more purple and red pigments, use this line to achieve a red-violet tint
The Sensitivity Test and Color Strand Test are the most important steps when coloring your hair!
The Sensitivity Test can help you determine if you’re sensitive to Naturtint Permanent Hair Color. Like other permanent dyes, Naturtint Permanent Hair Color contains ingredients that could cause allergic reactions for certain individuals. You should conduct a preliminary Sensitivity Test 48 hours before coloring to decide if Naturtint permanent hair color is right for you. If you do have an allergic reaction to the Sensitivity Test, do not use the product.
The Color Strand Test is the best way to preview a color and avoid undesirable results. We recommend that you test the color on a part of your hair that contains the colors you want to cover. Think of this as a dress rehearsal—time yourself as if you were coloring your whole head, but don’t mix up the whole kit, only a small portion is necessary.
Please follow the instructions included in your hair colour kit.
Can I mix colors to get the shade I want?
All Naturtint permanent hair colors are mixable. To measure and mix colors, we suggest that you use a plastic or glass container that measures in milliliters. Most importantly, always measure and use equal portions of colorant and developer to maintain the manufacturer’s recommended 1:1 ratio. Digital scales are the most accurate way to measure. If you approximate the proportions, the results may not be what you expect.
How do I achieve better gray coverage?
For high percentage or stubborn gray, our suggestion to achieve the best coverage is to choose a Natural tone 1N through 8N and leave the solution on for a full 40 minutes. If you prefer Golden, Red, Copper, or Mahogany tones you should mix it with a corresponding Natural tone for the most even and natural looking coverage (i.e. 5M and 5N).
If you are already following the guidance above, and still having trouble with gray coverage, one of our color specialists would be happy to assist you in getting those stubborn grays covered!
How do I choose the right color?
You can go as dark as you like, but permanent hair color can only lighten by up to two shades. Most people find that staying within two shades of their natural hair color suits their skin tone well. If you are having trouble deciding on a color, a Naturtint color specialist can help.
Will one box be enough?
One kit of Naturtint permanent hair color typically contains enough product to color shoulder-length hair. If your hair is longer than that, you may want to buy two or more kits.
